Special Needs Committee Conducts Site Visit

On Monday 12th September, 2022, Chief Secretary, The Honourable Farley Chavez Augustine, accompanied Secretary of Education, Research and Technology, Assemblyman Zorisha Hackett, and her team to explore property allocated for the construction of a world class institution that will provide quality education for persons with disabilities. The project requires 3 acres of land to house specialist buildings within a landscape that maintains the natural beauty of the flora and fauna of the area. A special committee, headed by Bobby Andrews, Planning Coordinator in the Office of the Chief Secretary, has been tasked with developing user and design briefs, stakeholder engagement exercises as well as a public education campaign to ensure that this project is delivered to the people of Tobago within this term of office. DERTech wishes to encourage residents and corporate citizens to participate in this venture as a collaborative and community-based project by providing volunteer or in-kind assistance that will make this dream a reality for parents and persons living with disabilities. The project will meet the needs of inclusive education by allowing students the opportunity to realise their fullest potential through a customised curriculum that also includes therapeutic intervention.
