The primary function of the Curriculum Planning and Development Unit (CPDU) is to manage the curriculum process at all levels of the education system. This process includes curriculum design, development, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and review.

Ensuring a high standard of education in Tobago through the development, modification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of curricula that are relevant, responsive and effective.

To promote and support quality education for all students in all schools in Tobago
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
a. To design, develop, monitor, evaluate and review curricula content and instructional materials in all subject areas
b. To guide principals and teachers in the implementation of curriculum standards
c. To review and recommend texts and other subject areas materials
d. To monitor and review curriculum delivery in schools
e. To provide orientation and assistance to new teachers
f. To organise and conduct workshops to enhance the knowledge and skills of teachers
g. To construct and administer assessments g. Tobago District Assessment
h. To make recommendations to the Division of Education, Research and Technology on facilities, equipment and other materials required for effective curriculum implementation in schools
i. To represent the Ministry of Education on interview panels as subject area specialists
j. To examine university transcripts of job applicants to determine suitability and status for teaching relevant subject areas
