ABOUT THE SCHOOL LIBRARY UNIT

The Tobago Library Services, School Library Unit is responsible for the management of the delivery of library services in primary and secondary schools in Tobago. The Unit, which was established in February 2016, is headed by a trained librarian whose role is to provide professional and technical support to Library Assistants and On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs) assigned to primary and secondary school libraries.

The key role of the School Library Unit is to provide support to the school libraries / School Library Media Centres. To this end, the Unit supplies all secondary schools and eight (8) primary schools with library resources. It also trains staff and maintains the provision of a library management system for the cataloguing and processing of library materials.

ABOUT THE TOBAGO ARCHIVES

The Tobago Archives is a repository for the documentary heritage of Tobago. The early Tobago Archives was a small unit under the supervision of the Tobago Central Library in the 1950s. The archival collection continued to be maintained and remained accessible at the Tobago Central Library until the 1997 earthquake which severely damaged the building. For twenty-two (22) years, the Tobago Archives was inaccessible to the public. After the opening of the Scarborough Library Facility in 2015, two (2) spaces were designated for the storage of archival records and the delivery of research-related services to the public. The Tobago Archives was formally reopened on 26th June 2019 and is managed by a trained archivist.
