Multicultural Education Unit

The Multicultural Education Unit, through its varied programmes and activities, impacts the lives of children and young people in Tobago from early childhood to tertiary level education. These initiatives build capacity and hone skills in visual arts and the following performing arts: song, dance, music and drama. All programmes are aligned to the Comprehensive Economic Development Plan (CEDP) as follows:

      • Priority IV Human Capital Development Outcome 3 Quality of early childhood, primary and secondary levels of education improved through the holistic development of the child.
      • Priority IV Human Capital Development Outcome 3.5 Promote and facilitate innovation and creativity from an early age.

 MISSION STATEMENT

To provide opportunities for students to express themselves through art, dance, drama, music and song, thereby facilitating their holistic development 

GOAL 

The goal of the Multicultural Education Unit is to promote and facilitate the teaching and learning of the performing arts in every educational institution in Tobago, in an attempt to enable success in industry and initiate new career paths 

OBJECTIVES

a. To develop creative expression among children and young people

b. To build capacity among children and young people to learn and develop speech and language

c. To foster appreciation and enjoyment of aesthetic activities

d. To provide opportunities for children and young people to express themselves creatively

e. To develop among children and young people the ability to link theory with creative practice in various art forms

f. To expose children and young people to a variety of styles and ideas which have shaped the arts across time and cultures

g. To foster understanding, tolerance, enjoyment and appreciation for cultural diversity, by exposing children and young people to different art forms
