COVID-19 Safety Efforts

The Division of Education, Innovation & Energy is dedicated to maintaining the safety of our staff and members of the general public. We have installed two sinks with soap dispensers are the entrances of the building. Help us Stop the Spread- All staff and members of the public are asked to wash their hands before entering the building. Remember to also: 1) Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands. 2) Avoid close contact with anyone who is sick. 3) Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow. 4) Practice social distancing (keep a minimum of 3 feet away from a person).

World Down Syndrome Day 2020

The members of staff of the Division of Education, Innovation and Energy join the rest of the world to recognize World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD). This year’s theme “We Decide” highlights how all people with Down Syndrome should have full participation in decision making about matters relating to, or affecting, their lives. School Social Work Week 2020

The School Social Workers, attached to the Division of Education, innovation and Energy, celebrate School Social Work Week from 1st – 7th March 2020. This year’s theme – Beacon of Hope: School Social Workers – Lighting the Way. We, as a lighthouse, moved into the community of Bethel, where we high-lighted some social ills and provided solutions parents can utilize to bring about positive changes in their children’s behaviour.

THA Inter-Dept Personality Competition 2020

Last Thursday the Division of Education, Innovation and Energy took home the THA Interdepartment Personality crown for the second year in a row. Dernelle Smith, a teacher of the Goodwood Secondary wowed the crowd and judges at this year’s competition, retaining the crown for the Division, which was won by Giselle Davidson-Yeates in 2019. The Division congratulates Dernelle on her excellent performance.

Tobago Primary Schools 3K Road Race Final

Sylina Jack was the first across the finish line in last Friday’s Tobago Primary Schools 3K Road Race final. The Scarborough Methodist student completed the Petit Trou to Shaw Park Hard Courts route in an impressive 14 minutes and 40 seconds. Completing the top three were reigning National champion Q’Jhea Stewart and Anaya Grant respectively. However, the overall winner of the race was Malique Young of Scarborough RC. Young crossed the line in 13 minutes and 50 seconds. The girls had a five-minute headstart over the boys. Bon Accord’s Aaron Wills and Dareem Caliste finished second and third respectively. The 20 girls and top 20 boys would now represent the Tobago zone in the national final in May this year. Assistant Secretary of the Division, Marisha Osmond commended the athletes for their bravery. Ms. Osmond also thanked the principals and coaches for their support in readying the athletes. The 3K signalled the start of the track and field season.

Early Childhood Awareness Day

Early Childhood Awareness Day, January 15, 2020 was held at the atrium of the Lowlands Mall, Lowlands, Tobago. The event was hosted by the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Unit of the Division of Education, Innovation and Energy under the theme Optimizing the Early Years to highlight the significance of early stimulation for successful learning in all students. The booths on exhibit included exciting and engaging topics which ranged from Mathematics, Science, Art and Craft, Tourism, and demonstrated the critical elements of the art and science of teaching at the earliest stage to prepare students for academic and social development. A short ceremony was held, during which speakers and practitioners guided the audience on advances in the sector in Tobago. This is the first major public event in Early Childhood Care and Education since the Tobago House of Assembly assumed responsibility for government schools in 2016. The exhibition was well received by visitors and the Day was deemed a resounding success.
