The Division of Education, Skills and Innovation’s mandate covers a comprehensive range of responsibilities aimed at modernising the educational landscape. Key focus areas include curriculum development, school library services and educational broadcasting. Furthermore, the Division will oversee essential student support systems such as educational counseling, guidance and the school nutrition programme.
A major pillar of this new portfolio is the integration of advanced technology and innovation. The Division will manage information Communication Technology in Schools, e-Government initiatives involving cybersecurity and data governance and the maintenance of School Laboratory Equipment. The scope also extends beyond traditional schooling to include Human Development, Employment and Manpower Placement and the registration of private education institutions.
The infrastructure and management of pre-school, primary and srcondary facilities fall under the Division’s remit alongside a commitment to teacher development and special education. This restructuring signals a strategic move to align educational outcomes with modern econmic demands and moral, ethical and spiritual values.
By centralising these diverse functions, the Division aims to streamline the delivery of educational services and foster a more robust innovation system within Tobago.
