Bishop’s High School Under-20 basketballers returned home yesterday to a hero’s welcome at the Scarborough Port. The team led by forward, Michael Smith, defeated Hillview College 43-40 to cop the Under-20 Boys title of the National Secondary Schools’ Basketball Championships last Saturday at the Southern Regional Indoor Arena.

Point guard, Chris Roberts took home the prestigious MVP award for his play during the tournament. At yesterday’s home-welcoming ceremony, Assistant Secretary in the Division of Education, Research and Technology, Councilor Olando Kerr and Assistant Secretary in the Division of Community Development, Youth Development and Sport, Assemblyman Wane Clarke, extended hearty congratulations to the victors, and pledged the THA’s continued support to sport development in schools. Principal, Ms. Cindy Ramnarine was full of praise for her young student-athletes. It was the second occasion in the history of the tournament that a Tobago school has won the Under-20 trophy. Scarborough Secondary School was the first.

Signal Hill Secondary took second place in the Boys Under-15, Bishop’s High missed out on the Boys Under-17 crown and Scarborough Secondary Girls lost their semifinal encounter in the Girls Open.

On behalf of Secretary Zorisha Hackett, the Division extends, once again, congratulations to all competing teams.
